WHO WE ARE
Soldiers Select Basketball is a youth select boys and girls basketball program based out of Brock Texas. We offer year round team practices and tournament & league play for grades 4th-12th. We host tryouts at SOAR ATHLETICS in February for the spring/summer seasons and again in August for the winter/fall season.

Through Christ-centered mentorship and high-level training, we develop skilled athletes while building teamwork, toughness, and discipline. One of our top priorities is preparing them for the next level of life both on and off the court. Our program is committed to helping players grow in character, confidence, and leadership. We strive to equip them for college athletics and for a life that honors Christ.

CLUB DIRECTOR / head Coach
Lance Ewell
Coach Lance Ewell started Small Town Elite (now Soldier Select Basketball) for players looking to take their basketball development seriously. The first team was formed in the fall of 2020 and since then we have changed the program name and colorway but the motto has remained the same. Discipline, Togetherness, Toughness.

Deshawn Riddick
Coach Deshawn has been apart of the Soldiers coaching staff since the summer of 2021. From the moment he joined the staff he has been pivotal in the programs success. His exceptional basketball IQ and methodical approach to the game coupled with his high level ability and in-game experience really sets him apart from the average coach. Coach Deshawn is on the All-Time Assists Leaderboards at Tarleton State University, he holds the record for the best 3pt % in school history and has played on multiple professional teams since graduating college 2021. We are beyond blessed to have him on our staff.
BOYS & GIRLS COACH
Tyler Thomas
Coming up on his 5th year with the program, Weatherford native, Coach Tyler Thomas brings a wealth of next level basketball knowledge and understanding to his teams. His level headed, cool and collected approach to the game is what really sets him apart as a coach. Coach Tyler’s youthful savvy allows us as a staff to strengthen the program overall chemistry.

Kane Chandler
Coach Kane brings an abundance of in game knowledge & experiences as well as tons of energy in our team practices. He is a lead by example kind of young man and we couldn’t be more blessed to have him be a part of this coaching staff. He was a 4 year varsity player at Weatherford High School And currently holds the “All Time Most Points Scored“ Record at WHS.

LJ Desoto
Coach LJ DeSoto is known for his loud, uplifting energy that instantly motivates athletes. He combines strong technical understanding with a genuine passion for developing players at every level. LJ believes in coaching with clarity, enthusiasm, and purpose, ensuring athletes always know what they’re working toward. His voice carries across the court, keeping practices sharp and engaging. With his leadership, players learn, improve, and gain confidence every day.
